The steering committee (chairperson,two vice chairs and six more members) is elected for six years. It is dealing with professional questions and prepares meetings and conferences. The committee members can also be contacted with all questions of archiving in the field of the protestant church in Germany.

The committee's work is supported by a professional advisory board (Wissenschaftlicher Beirat) and by a group of church officials representing the archives' owning institutions (Gruppe der Archivreferenten und -dezernenten).
