Social justice and free market

 Dialoque

Editorial

In the last edition of ECUMENICAL DIALOGUE, we featured various opinions on the joint statement of Germany’s two main churches on the economic and social situation in Germany. This joint statement of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and the Catholic German Bishop’s Conference published this February under the heading "For a Future Founded on Solidarity and Justice" triggered an animated and long discussion in German church and social circles.

This discussion is not confined to the media but takes place at protestant academy meetings and round tables in some communities. After the initially rather favourable, albeit neutral response, the reflections on the churches’ joint statement now go into greater detail and even voice criticism.

This edition of ECUMENICAL DIALOGUE will focus on opinions from the development policy angle, from a female point of view and from the trade union and economic perspective.
