EKD bestürzt über die Anschläge in London

Erschüttert von den Anschlägen in London hat der Vorsitzende des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), Bischof Wolfgang Huber, dem anglikanischen Erzbischof Rowan Williams sein tief empfundenes Mitgefühl ausgedrückt. "Unsere Gebete gelten den Menschen in Großbritannien, besonders den Einwohnern von London und denjenigen, die um Angehörige und Freunde bangen", so der Ratsvorsitzende in einem Kondolenzschreiben. Busse und U-Bahnen und damit unschuldige Menschen als Ziele ihrer Anschläge zu wählen, zeuge von der zutiefst unmenschlichen Haltung der Terroristen. "Möge das Wort des Evangeliums: 'In der Welt habt ihr Angst; aber seid getrost, ich habe die Welt überwunden.' allen Betroffenen Trost geben."

Dear brother in Christ,

deeply touched about the explosions in the city of London which took place this morning, we are sending you this letter to express our sincere feelings of sympathy in Christian solidarity. A lot of victims and wounded persons are expected. All our prayers are with the people in Great Britain especially with the inhabitants in the city of London and all persons being anxious about their relatives and friends who are possibly affected.

We share the common aims in our ecumenical process to establish peace and justice in our world. It shows the deeply inhuman attitude of the terrorists to choose buses and underground trains as targets for their terrorist attacks aiming at innocent people.

Our Lord Jesus Christ says : In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world (John 16). May this word of the gospel comfort all people being involved.

We are asking for God's assistance in this difficult situation for your country.
