Confessions from the Reformation era
The Reformation started with criticism of the abuses in the church. As time went on, it gave rise to new teachings and an emerging Reformation theology. The Protestants recorded these new teachings in confessions during the Reformation period. Catechisms were written in order to explain the meaning of faith for everyday life. The Augsburg Confession summarises the basic elements of the new faith and, to this day, is regarded as an important confessional document of Protestant churches.
